ImagFX

A Notch media server for consumer PCs

A Windows media server built for Funky Fox Studio. It runs Notch blocks, normally meant for machines like disguise d3, on consumer PCs. It takes a live input (NDI, SDI) and sends the result to SDI, NDI and graphics card outputs. I wrote the C++/DirectX 11 render engine from the first commit and integrated it into an app that drives it from MIDI controllers, lighting desks and its own interface. The project grew from a 50 fps DeckLink loopback prototype into a production server for stadium concerts.

highlights

  • ▸Colour conversion moved from the CPU to HLSL shaders: turning 8/10-bit YUV into RGBA on the GPU skips a CPU → GPU copy and speeds up processing (at a concert, every frame counts)
  • ▸Built for concert conditions: sources plugged in mid-show, resolution changes and parameter floods from lighting desks, without losing the output
  • ▸The device abstraction lets SDI, NDI and display outputs be combined and reconfigured without stopping the render loop, e.g. two SDI outputs, NDI and a monitor window at once
  • ▸Optimised layer data queries so heavy effects stay within the frame budget (e.g. 50 fps)
  • ▸Synchronisation support (VSync, Genlock)
  • ▸An HTTP/JSON API controls blocks, layers, parameters, devices and resolution without compromising render performance
  • ▸Used at: Dawid Podsiadło at PGE Narodowy (2023), Dawid Podsiadło's 2024 stadium tour, Dawid Podsiadło's OBROTOWY TOUR 2026, sanah's Uczta nad ucztami stadium tour, Clout Festival 2023, FAME MMA galas, Mata Tour 2022, Lech Polish Hip-Hop Music Awards and other live events
