On-Set Media Library
A browser-based video library that drives different LED rooms
A web app I built for Funky Fox Studio to organise thousands of large video clips and play them during shows and shoots. Operators on any studio PC browse and tag clips in a browser, then send one to an nDisplay LED wall with a click: the library tells the Unreal cluster what to play and serves it the files. One library handles any room setup you create.
highlights
- ▸Scans local and network drives, checks every file with ffprobe, and builds thumbnails and low-resolution previews
- ▸Projects, tags, comments, search, play history, a colour-wheel grading panel and a play queue
- ▸Built for unreliable network drives: a cap on concurrent file checks and scans
- ▸A binary TCP protocol to Unreal with its own auto-reconnecting connection
- ▸One process on one port serves the API, the video files, live Socket.IO updates and the React app, and tracks which machines are still downloading a clip
- ▸SQLite in WAL mode
